Twin Bridges repairs start Monday, with the southbound bridge closing Friday night
The 5AM Henderson team
If you cross the Ohio River on U.S. 41, mark Monday. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is set to begin repairs on the Twin Bridges Mon., Nov. 9, with work expected to run through the week. The goal is to reopen all four lanes much sooner than the expected Thanksgiving deadline.
- Replacing: damaged rocker bearings on the southbound bridge
- Repairing: a structural support beam
Most work happens beneath the bridge, so you probably won't see much change early in the week. By Wednesday night or Thursday morning, southbound traffic is expected to shift from the left lane to the right lane.
Traffic changes midweek and again Friday night
| When | What you'll see |
|---|---|
| Monday to midweek | Work mostly below the bridge; little change |
| Wed. night or Thu. morning | Southbound traffic moves from left lane to right |
| Friday night | Southbound bridge closed; one lane each way on northbound |

Friday night is the one to plan around. In the final phase, the southbound bridge closes completely and all Ohio River traffic uses the northbound bridge. We suggest leaving extra time that night.
The Twin Bridges plan comes down to a few numbers
- 4 lanes
- the cabinet aims to reopen before Thanksgiving
- 15 feet
- width of each lane on the northbound bridge Friday night
- 1 night
- the northbound bridge runs one lane each way

Afterward, crews will start moving both southbound lanes back to the southbound bridge. You could see some delays on the northbound bridge while it's restriped to its normal two-lane configuration.
